Build - Sr Consultant/Principal (AI SDLC Specialist)
Who You’ll Work With
Slalom Build capability is Slalom’s technology powerhouse, dedicated to engineering, cutting-edge technologies, and modern development practices. We embrace diversity of thought and background, fostering a culture that values creativity and collaboration. As a trusted partner, Slalom Build helps clients maximize the value of their software by delivering fast, high-quality, and consistent solutions. We combine strategic thinking with AI-driven tools to support end-to-end delivery at any scale. Our focus is not only on building great solutions, but also on empowering people and creating lasting impact.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate the legacy codebase's suitability for AI-assisted tooling, considering code structure, language mix, complexity, and module characteristics that influence AI comprehension and effectiveness.
- Research and evaluate AI tooling options across the SDLC, including code documentation generation, unit test generation, automated code review, and business rules extraction, and assessing capability, licensing, cost, security, and data privacy implications.
- Execute hands-on AI-assisted documentation and test generation pilots on representative modules, evaluating accuracy, completeness, coverage, effort savings versus manual approaches, and scalability across the broader codebase.
- Collaborate with team to select pilot candidates, assess AI-generated test quality and maintainability, and incorporate findings into the overall testing and documentation strategies.
- Implement the existing phased AI-SDLC adoption roadmap with defined success metrics, prerequisites, cost-benefit estimates, and governance guardrails covering review processes, intellectual property considerations, and quality gates for AI-generated artifacts.
- Investigate integrating AI tooling into CI/CD pipelines and evaluating AI-augmented alternatives within the broader SDLC tooling landscape.
- Assess the client's organizational readiness and appetite for AI tooling adoption, and contribute findings to executive readouts and technical deep-dive sessions with client teams.
What You’ll Bring
Must Have
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- Demonstratable hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools
- Demonstrated experience piloting and evaluating AI tooling in enterprise environments, not just personal use, but structured evaluation with measurable outcomes
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted code documentation generation, with an understanding of what works, what doesn't, and where human review is essential
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted test generation, with an understanding of coverage quality, edge case limitations, and maintainability of generated tests
- Strong understanding of SDLC processes and best practices, must understand the full lifecycle to identify where AI adds value vs. where it introduces risk
- Understanding of unit testing frameworks (.NET: xUnit, NUnit; JavaScript: Jest) to a sufficient ability to evaluate AI-generated test quality
- Ability to design pragmatic adoption roadmaps that account for organizational readiness, not just technical capability
- Excellent communication and demonstration skills, to be able to show stakeholders concrete examples of AI tooling value, not abstract promises
- Understanding of AI governance, data privacy, and IP considerations related to using AI tools on proprietary codebases
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM-based code analysis, using models for business rules extraction and code comprehension
- Experience with React/TypeScript
- Experience with AI code review tools
- A strong foundation in .NET development
- Experience with prompt engineering for code analysis tasks
- Experience with BDD/ATDD and AI-assisted acceptance test generation
- Familiarity with RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) patterns for codebase-aware AI assistants
- Experience evaluating AI tool security, including code snippet transmission, data retention policies, SOC2 compliance of AI vendors
