We are seeking an experienced GitLab CI/CD Platform Engineer to support a client initiative focused on building and operationalizing secure, scalable software delivery capabilities within AWS. This consultant will partner with development, cloud, security, networking, and architecture teams to implement GitLab-based DevSecOps practices, automate infrastructure and application delivery, and establish repeatable deployment patterns that align with enterprise standards.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in GitLab, CI/CD automation, AWS cloud services, Infrastructure as Code, and secure software delivery. This individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor and hands-on engineer, helping the client design, implement, document, and transition a modern software delivery platform.
What You’ll Do
GitLab Platform & Repository Engineering
• Design, configure, and administer GitLab projects, repositories, groups, access controls, and permissions.
• Implement branch protection strategies, merge request workflows, approval requirements, and repository governance practices.
• Establish Git branching, versioning, tagging, and release management standards that support controlled software development and deployment.
• Create documentation for repository structures, contribution standards, release processes, and development workflows.
CI/CD Pipeline Development
• Design and implement reusable GitLab CI/CD pipeline templates that support build, test, security scanning, packaging, publishing, and deployment activities.
• Develop automated delivery workflows that enable traceable software promotion across environments.
• Integrate quality, security, and compliance controls into pipeline execution.
• Ensure CI/CD processes are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise best practices.
GitLab Runner & Container Platform Administration
• Deploy, register, secure, and maintain GitLab runners supporting AWS-hosted workloads.
• Configure runner tags, executors, networking, credentials, and scaling strategies.
• Create and maintain container images used throughout software build and deployment processes.
• Ensure container images are reproducible, securely configured, and optimized for cloud deployment.
DevSecOps & Quality Engineering
• Integrate SonarQube and similar code quality tools into delivery pipelines.
• Implement automated quality gates and policies that prevent promotion of non-compliant code.
• Configure merge request controls, approval workflows, and deployment safeguards.
• Partner with development teams to address findings and improve software quality and security posture.
Artifact Management & Deployment Automation
• Publish and manage versioned software artifacts and libraries within JFrog Artifactory.
• Implement artifact promotion processes and repository governance standards.
• Deploy approved software packages and libraries to Amazon S3 and related AWS services.
• Maintain artifact metadata, lifecycle processes, and release traceability.
AWS Infrastructure & Cloud Integration
• Configure secure CI/CD access into AWS environments using IAM roles, policies, and least-privilege access controls.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and GitLab automation.
• Deploy and configure AWS services including VPCs, S3, IAM, networking, security controls, and supporting infrastructure.
• Validate connectivity, routing, DNS, security groups, and service communications across AWS environments and accounts.
Consulting Responsibilities
• Collaborate with client stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, and delivery leaders to define and implement practical solutions.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable platform architectures and automated delivery workflows.
• Facilitate technical discussions, design reviews, and solution recommendations with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations clearly and effectively.
• Create implementation documentation, operational runbooks, support procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
• Support solution transition and operational readiness activities.
This consultant will help the client establish a secure, repeatable software build and deployment capability aligned with enterprise standards by:
• Implementing traceable GitLab workflows from code commit through deployment and artifact publication.
• Enabling secure, automated software delivery across AWS environments.
• Establishing governance, quality controls, and deployment guardrails.
• Creating comprehensive technical documentation and operational runbooks.
• Conducting knowledge transfer activities and supporting transition to long-term operations teams.
What You’ll Bring
• 5-7+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering, Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Hands-on experience implementing and administering GitLab repositories, runners, merge request workflows, branch protections, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of Git source control, branching strategies, versioning, release management, and repository governance.
• Experience designing and implementing automated build, test, packaging, and deployment pipelines.
• Strong containerization experience, including creating and maintaining container images used across delivery workflows.
• Experience integrating SonarQube or comparable static analysis and code quality tools into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience publishing and managing software packages within JFrog Artifactory.
• Experience deploying software artifacts to Amazon S3 and AWS-hosted environments.
• Strong AWS experience including IAM, VPCs, private networking, security controls, and cross-account access management.
• Experience building secure, auditable, and repeatable deployment automation solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using Terraform to automate cloud infrastructure and platform provisioning.
• Experience supporting AWS cross-account architectures using technologies such as Transit Gateway, VPC Peering, PrivateLink, DNS, and routing.
• Experience with container registries, image scanning, dependency management, and artifact lifecycle governance.
• Familiarity with secure software delivery requirements and compliance frameworks such as CMMC, NIST, or similar regulated environments.
